Orangetheory Fitness coming to Bowling Green this spring
A national fitness company will soon bring its brand of tech-based sweat sessions to Bowling Green.
Orangetheory Fitness, a franchise in more than 700 cities, is expected to open in April on Campbell Lane.
“Right now, it’s just an empty space,” said Allison Meier, the Bowling Green studio manager. But by spring, the space will be transformed into a sleek studio with showers, lockers and walls painted the franchise’s trademark orange.
Staff will partially be sourced from the Evansville Orangetheory, which opened two years ago. That includes the owners and Meier.
“The community (in Evansville) is awesome,” Meier said. “That’s what we hope to sustain here.”
The Bowling Green team is getting a head start on meeting potential members. On Saturday, they will host a pre-sales kickoff party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center to mingle, sip refreshments and explain what it’s all about.
Orangetheory offers one-hour sessions divided into cardiovascular sets on treadmills and rowers and strength training sets in individual weight areas.
Orangetheory claims you can burn 500 calories or more during a single session – as well as some calories afterward.
Throughout the coached workout, people monitor their heart rates (with Orangetheory heart rate monitors) on a big screen and attempt to push themselves into their personal “orange” heart rate zone for at least 12 minutes during the hour.
Each client has different heart rate zones. Although everyone is performing the same workout, they’re doing it at their pace – so no one should feel intimidated, according to Meier.
“You’ll have a marathon runner on the right, and a 61-year-old power walker to the left,” she said. “It’s a class setting, but it’s very personalized.”
Immediately after each class, clients receive an electronic copy of their workout, including how many minutes they spent in each heart rate zone.
And for the 24 hours after class, clients will continue to burn calories through the “afterburn effect,” Orangetheory claims.
“Our workouts are scientifically designed to make you burn calories after,” Meier said.
The studio will offer classes as early as 5 a.m. and as late as 8 p.m., and will be open seven days a week.
“We’ll be open every day except Christmas Day,” Meier said. “You’d be surprised how many people are mad about us being closed the one day.”
Orangetheory Fitness will be at 760 Campbell Lane in Bowling Green.
Updates will be posted on their Facebook page, “Orangetheory Fitness Bowling Green.”
