Mark Johnson 1963-2010

The music community suffered a great loss this weekend with the passing of Mark Johnson.  Johnson, a bass player, was well known for his good nature and as a dedicated supporter of the local scene.  He was active in promoting not only his bands, but events like Vet Jam and organizations such as the Kentucky Blues Society.  He was the bass player for the Fender Benders, Hard Knocks and Chuck Wells and Stone Cold Blues and had been a member of several other bands in in the past.

His Daily News obituary reads:

Mark Keith Johnson, 47, of Bowling Green, died at 3:42 p.m. July 4, 2010, in Allen County.

He was born June 18, 1963, was the bass player for the Fender Benders and other bands and was a member of the Kentucky Blues Society. He also worked as a master carpenter. He was a son of the late Cecil Edward Johnson and Virginia Mae Atkerson and her husband Harold, of Scottsville, who survive.

Funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and begins at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Kentucky Blues Society.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Johnson; a son, Cecil Zakkary Johnson, of Bowling Green; a daughter, Shelley Skky Johnson, of Bowling Green; a brother, Michael Wayne Johnson, of Rockfield; a sister, Freda Constant, and her husband, Don, of Scottsville; and several nieces and nephews.
