Western Kentucky University’s School of Nursing will be able to continue training nurse practitioners thanks to a $272,574 grant it recently received from the Health Resources and Services Administration. 

“We’re thrilled that we got the grant,” said Eve Main, an associate professor in the nursing school. 

The money from the HRSA’s Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship grant will go toward providing traineeships to about 16 students, Main said. 

“It provides support for tuition, books and stipends,” she said. 

However, Main said the training will benefit more than just students. Students will take the training they receive into underserved areas in Kentucky or Tennessee, which she said are areas the program draws students from. 

This year marks the 19th consecutive year WKU has received the award.
