Lady Toppers swept away at North Texas
Western Kentucky’s tennis team competed against 69th-ranked singles player Tamuna Kutubidze and 19th-ranked doubles pair Kutubidze and Maria Konokova on Saturday in its 7-0 loss to Conference USA opponent North Texas (5-3 overall, 2-0 C-USA).
Competing against Kutubidze/Konokova in the top spot were junior Lisa Friess and sophomore Laura Bernardos. The Lady Topper duo lost 6-1.
WKU’s freshmen tandem of Zeniece Charles-Hall and Judit Gonzalez Agud lost in the No. 2 spot 6-2. WKU lost the third doubles match by default.
Bernardos lost to Kutubidze in the leading singles spot 6-4, 6-1. Charles-Hall played in the four-spot for WKU and lost 6-1, 6-1.
Friess lost 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot while Gonzalez Agud played in the third position and lost 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Kyla Dilger lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and the Mean Green won the sixth singles match by default.
WKU (0-5, 0-1 C-USA) is set to play at Lipscomb on Friday and host its first home match in two seasons Saturday.{&end}
