Scottsville’s Legendary Songwriter Norro Wilson credits collaboration for successes

In early March Scottsville born and raised Norro Wilson appeared at the Country Music hall of Fame and Museum as part of the Poets and Prophets series.  According to the post-program writeup on the organization’s website, “With a mix of humor and humility-well-known traits of one of the most popular personalities on Music Row-Wilson repeatedly recalled details of the songwriting and recording process that he said lifted his contributions to a higher level.”

The article went on to describe examples Wilson gave of how producers, co-writers and singers contribute to the evolution of a song.  “I’m sitting here in this chair today, but just so everybody knows, it wasn’t just me,” Wilson said. “I wrote these songs with other people, together. This moment I share with them, and I think that’s important for everybody to know.”

In 1996 Norro Wilson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriter’s hall of Fame by virtue of his eleven #1 country hits on Billboard’s chart and more than twenty other Top Ten songs.  In addition to songwriting, Wilson has had a notable career as a recording artist, performer, producer and record executive.  He has 38 BMI awards and  29 #1 awards as producer to his credit.

The program was set to coincide with the Museum’s exhibit featuring artist Tammy Wynette who cut a number of Wilson’s songs.  Visit the museum’s site for many more details on Wilson’s presentation. http://countrymusichalloffame.org/past-programs/view/1541?month=03&day=05&year=2011
