Mitten Tree at Warren County Public Library

The Warren County Public Library will start accepting donations for our Mitten Trees on December 1. New or gently used mittens, gloves, coats, scarves, and hats are needed for children and adults in our community.  These donations will decorate “Mitten Trees” at all library locations.  Items will be collected until December 17 and then given to BRASS (Barren River Area Safe Space).

“Our Mitten Tree Campaign is based on a children’s book: The Mitten Tree by Candace Christiansen,” says youth librarian Laura Johnson. “ In the story an elderly woman knits mittens for children who wait for their school bus just outside of the woman’s house.  She places the mittens on an evergreen tree for the children to discover and enjoy.  The story reminds us that an act of kindness, no matter how big or small, is good for everyone.”

“This campaign is a great opportunity for adults and children alike to give back to their community,” says Johnson. “And, for children in particular, it’s a great time to learn about caring for others simply for the good of it.”

Donations will be accepted at all Warren County Public Library locations.  For more information, call 781-4882.
