Former Hilltopper Thomas signs pro contract in Germany

Former Western Kentucky men’s basketball player Pancake Thomas has signed his first professional contract with Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club in Germany, the team announced Thursday.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Baton Rouge, La., is set to join the pro club that competes in the Basketball Bundesliga, the first-tier league in Germany.

Former Hilltopper and longtime overseas pro Sergio Kerusch has also been on the Mitteldeutscher roster.

Thomas appeared in and started all 32 games for the Hilltoppers during the 2016-17 season after transferring to WKU as a graduate senior.

He averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game and ranked sixth in Conference USA with 34.8 minutes per game. His 1,112 total minutes played ranked eighth in WKU history for a single season.

Thomas shot 41.6 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from the 3-point line. His 76 made 3-pointers tied for eighth in WKU history for a single season, and he hit at least four 3s in 10 games, including eight of his last 15.

Thomas joins a solid lineup of former Hilltoppers playing pro ball domestically or overseas. Heading into the 2016-17 season, there were 15 former WKU players active professionally.{&end}
