Police investigate dragging death of pit bull
Bowling Green police are investigating the dragging death of a pit bull.
Saturday, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society posted to the society’s Facebook page asking for donations to help cover medical expenses for a pit named Sugar that was in their care after being dragged by a car. The circumstances surrounding the incident were not included in the post.
“However, please help us spread the word that it is so very dangerous to ever leave a dog tethered or chained to a vehicle for any amount of time. We have seen this happen before and hope to never see it happen again,” according to the Facebook post.
The following day, the organization posted that Sugar died as a result of her injuries.
“The investigation is still going on, and it is absolutely tragic how this happened,” according to the Sunday Facebook post. “A terrible ache is inside all of our hearts. We were so hopeful that she would pull through this.”
Just after 10 a.m. Saturday, Bowling Green police were called to the 1100 block of Crewdson Drive for a report of animal cruelty. The original call came when a driver turned onto Veterans Memorial Lane from Main Street while dragging a dog behind his vehicle. Multiple other drivers attempted to get the driver to pull over, according to BGPD spokesman Ronnie Ward.
The driver did not stop. After traveling more than a mile, the driver pulled in to the 1100 block of Crewdson Drive, where police responded. The driver told police he did not know the dog was chained to the car, Ward said, reading from the police report.
No one has been charged with a crime in the incident, which remains under investigation, Ward said. The driver’s name is being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation.
Injury collision — Kentucky State Police responded to a two-vehicle injury collision between a car and a motorcycle at 12:33 p.m. Sunday on Morgantown Road at the intersection of Mark Trail in Warren County.
The preliminary investigation shows that Corene Counts, 84, of Bowling Green, was driving a 2007 Saturn and had stopped at the stop sign on Mark Trail, according to a release from KSP. She then pulled on to Morgantown Road into the pathway of a 2000 Honda motorcycle being driven by Chris Oulay, 30, of Bowling Green, that was traveling north on Morgantown Road. The motorcycle was unable to avoid the collision and struck the driver’s side of Counts’ vehicle.
Oulay and his passenger, Ida Myldy, 29, of Irvington, were both flown by medical helicopter to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. The Daily News was unable to obtain their conditions Monday morning from the hospital.
Counts was taken to The Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
