Contractors leave mess in neighborhood, residents upset

Residents of Springfield Subdivision, off Elrod Road, have been taking action to rectify the issues they’ve been having with subcontractors hired by AT&T to install U-verse cables within the neighborhood.

There’s been a lot of construction in the new areas of the subdivision as more homes are built, but the contractors hired by AT&T have left trash everywhere including bottles filled with urine, ripped up sidewalks, broken sewer grates and they’ve hit gas and sewer pipes, said subdivision resident Jill Stewart.

“We live in a neighborhood that’s new but even Jagoe would be respectful and not leave any trash behind. I’m not sure when (the contractors) are coming back and they promised that they would put things back to how it was,” Stewart said. “We would like our sidewalks back to looking what it used to, now the sidewalks are raised because of the pipe they put underneath them and spray painted all over.”

Resident Joey Martin said the contractors told him they planned on restoring everything back to it’s original condition. He said the contractors are very unprofessional and were supposed to replace the sod, but it’s just lying across the street in the area where more construction is being done.

“They didn’t replace the sod and they just basically had thrown grass seeds and didn’t even attempt to level the yard,” Martin said. “Our street is a pretty street and we take pride in our yard. There is a storm drain that they’ve broken and all this stuff should have been repaired and they shouldn’t have left our property in the condition that it was left in.”

Stewart has been reaching out to several Warren County agencies explaining the situation in her neighborhood. One of the people she’s spoken with several times was Warren County District 3 Magistrate Tony Payne, who said the county is on top of what’s going on in the area.

“As soon as we got the calls we started working on it. We had a hard time pushing AT&T, but they agreed to do what we wanted done. They have already fixed some places but we’re not going to stop until we get them all fixed,” Payne said.

County Public Works Director Josh Moore said he’s spoken directly with a local person working with AT&T and brought the issues of the subdivision to their attention.

“I advised him that anything that is disturbed or damaged in the county right of way would need to be put back to our standards,” Moore said. “I know that there have been some work done to yards and private properties and they have assured me that they will work with those property owners to get this repaired.”

AT&T Corporate Communications Senior Public Relations manager Cathy Lewandowski has been made aware of the issues in the neighborhood and said At&T is working to rectify it.

“We are working as quickly as possible to identify, restore and repair any damages that we may have caused in the Springfield Subdivision. We hope to have final restoration in the subdivision by June 30 at the latest,” she said in an email.
