VSA Kentucky present Melody T. Bock-Freeman Ron Billings Emerging Artist Award Winner

VSA Kentucky presents artwork by Melody T. Bock-Freeman at the ArtsACCESS Gallery, open January 7 – February 25, 2011.  Melody is the 2010 Ron Billings Emerging Artist Award recipient.

Meet the artist and watch as she demonstrates her painting and mixed media process on Friday, February 25th from 4:30pm-7:30pm.  Join in a hands on workshop for all ages and abilities.  Melody will be available to answer questions about her art and assist you step by step in a Make and Take workshop at the studio/classroom of the ArtsACCESS Gallery.

The exhibition includes traditional easel paintings in acrylic with subjects ranging from colorful botanicals to nonrepresentational compositions.  Her large scale work, like “My Salvation”  are 4 – 5 feet in dimension.  Many of the larger pieces are mixed media and assemblage constructions.  These subjects are from “The Accident Series” in which she chronicles the events in her life following an almost fatal accident.

Her work expresses a wide range of emotion, the joy and beauty she sees in nature to the trauma, pain and recovery following her accident.  Melody also works as a teaching artist for VSA Kentucky and shares her skills and talents with Kentucky students and teachers in schools across the Commonwealth.
