Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library Fall Book Sale and Inaugural Silent Auction
Mark your calendars and attend Friends of the Library’s Labor Day Weekend Book Sale and Silent Auction to benefit the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library, 1530 South Green St., Glasgow. Enjoy Global Fest on the Square and shop the sale! The Book Sale and Silent Auction will be a three day event this year. The dates the sale is open to the public are Sept. 3 and 4, Friday and Saturday with hours from 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM each day. There will be a “Member’s Only” Preview Sale on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 5:00-7:00 PM reserved for current Friends of the Library members. We will have a checklist at the door and will be set up for late renewals and new memberships. Membership is a nominal $5.00 individual, $10 for family with higher levels of sponsorship available. Membership forms are available at the circulation desks, join now and avoid the rush!
This year we are sponsoring a Silent Auction that will run in conjunction with the sale. Auction Chairman Glenna Jorgesen reports donations have been pouring in with a large and varied selection of autographed books, gift certificates, goods and services available to the highest bidder. If you like the new television series Rizzoli and Isles, we have a signed hardback Tess Gerritsen novel for one lucky winner! Merchants, individuals and businesses have expressed their thanks and support of the Library with their generous contributions. It could be a great time to do some holiday shopping without leaving town!
Friends of the Library has continued to expand their support of Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library programs, made additions to the circulating collection and are sponsors of the Back-to-School Bashes which will reach 7000 students this year. The Friends have successfully solicited book and materials donations throughout the year. Chairman Linda Tucker is impressed with the outstanding selection of both fiction and nonfiction at affordable prices. She says, “Both quality and quantity of donations are up and our returning buyers should be pleased with the choices.” Book prices are 50 cents for pocket sized paperbacks and $1.00 for hardbacks for trade and over-sized paperbacks with some specially priced sets. We will also have DVD’s, audio books and music CD’s for purchase. Successful bidders of Silent Auction items need not be present at the conclusion of the sale. Winners will be called and arrangements made to complete the purchase.
This is a cash only sale for book sale purchases. The main sale will take place in the large, main floor meeting room with children’s books and the Silent Auction in the Internet cafe in the library lobby. Please be generous, consider rounding up your purchase as this is the major fundraiser to benefit our community library.
