Local Artists at Warren County Public Library

Local artists Leslie Nichols and Brenda Brown will exhibit their work at the Warren County Public Library Main Library and the Bob Kirby Branch.

Leslie Nichols will display her art in the Porter Café at the Main Library. She has shown her work in the United States, Spain and England. She has exhibited nationally in numerous group shows and her paintings and drawings are included in public and private collections across the United States as well as in Norway, Spain and England.

Originally from St Louis, Missouri, Leslie Nichols earned her BFA with highest honors from Fontbonne University. She is a traditionally trained painter whose work combines text with image to create unique landscapes and portraits. Her work received first prize in Liquitex’s Excellence in Art Purchase Program for which her work was presented in Art in America’s August 2008 Gallery Guide. Recent works are also on display locally at Ellis Walker Gallery located in Thoroughbred Square.

Brenda Brown’s work will be featured at the Bob Kirby Branch. Brenda Brown taught elementary art in Russellville for 20 years and has been teaching at Russellville High School for three years. Her preferred forms of media include acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Her subjects include a series of paintings taken from old family photos, horses, the Kentucky Derby, and farm animals.

“My focus is color,” says Brown.  “Some pieces deal with the absence of color using focal point color only. Compositional movement is achieved through color and placement.”

Both exhibits open October 4 and will end October 29.  For information about these exhibits or about showing art at the library, contact Jayne Pelaski at jaynep@warrenpl.org
