Whitehouse helps Midway rally to win KIAC women’s golf championship

Midway College sophomore Kelsey Whitehouse (South Warren Class of 2014) helped the Eagles battle back from six strokes down after the first round to win the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) women’s golf championship on Saturday at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown.

Whitehouse cut four strokes off her second-round score with an 85 to finish the tournament tied for 11th with a 30-over 174. Whitehouse’s round was one of her best scores of the season.

Midway fired a combined 320 on Day 2 of the tournament to card a 655, beating runner-up Brescia by 12 strokes.

The championship earned the Eagles the KIAC’s automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship (May 17-20) at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.

Rose-Hulman (Ind.) sophomore Ashton Foushee (Glasgow Class of 2014) fired a first-round 94 to help the Fightin’ Engineers to a third-place showing following Saturday’s opening round of the Grizzly Spring Invitational at Hillview Country Club in Franklin, Ind.

Foushee carded the third-best score for Rose-Hulman and is tied for 16th individually in the tournament, which wraps up on Sunday at the par 72 Hillview course.
