Hot Rods sweep Dayton
The Bowling Green Hot Rods finished off a four-game sweep of the Dayton (Ohio) Dragons with a 9-3 win at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday.
Bowling Green (61-45 overall, 24-13 second half) never trailed in the series, outscoring Dayton 33-11. It was the second four-game sweep in a road series this year, the first time the Hot Rods have swept two four-game road series since 2012. Bowling Green extended its lead in the playoff race to eight games with 33 games remaining.
Brett Sullivan paced the offense with four hits and three RBIs. Michael Russell had two hits and three RBIs, while Kevin Padlo had two hits and three runs scored.
Michael Velasquez allowed one run and six hits to win his third straight start and improve to 6-7 on the season.
The Hot Rods head to Lansing (Mich.) to open a three-game series at 6:05 p.m. CDT tonight with right-hander Blake Bivens (4-3, 2.91) facing Lugnuts righty Jordan Romano (2-1, 1.71).
