Kesha coming to Bowling Green

Multi-million selling pop star Kesha will headline a one-day music festival coming in June to Bowling Green Ballpark.

PickAxe Promotions’ PickAxe Summerfest is taking place at the ballpark June 18 and will feature the singer of four No. 1 singles, including “We R Who We R” and “Tik Tok,” one of the top-selling digital downloads in history.

Kesha, who grew up in Nashville, was in the news last month when she appealed a judge’s decision denying her the ability to break a contract with her producer whom she has alleged raped her.

This week she took to Instagram to criticize those she calls body shamers.

“Not a slave to perfection right now … ,” the caption in her bikini-clad photo reads. “body shamers please (expletive) off ain’t nobody got time for it.”

Also on the bill for the Summerfest are Alien Ant Farm, whose 2001 album “Anthology” has sold more than 1 million copies and featured their cover of Michael Jackson’s song “Smooth Criminal,” thrusting them into the pop culture consciousness.

“We’re optimistic that ticket sales will be pretty strong,” Bowling Green Hot Rods General Manager Adam Nuse said. “We’re trying to use the ballpark for more than just baseball. It’s a community asset and the owners are pretty passionate about bringing more events and unique experiences downtown.”

Bowling Green Southern rap group Twang and Round and Detroit-based singer Christina Chriss are performing as supporting acts, with more artists to be determined at a later date.

Bowling Green Ballpark in recent years has positioned itself as an entertainment venue for big-name musical acts, hosting Florida Georgia Line and Nelly in 2014 and the Lost River Music Festival last year, which was headlined by ZZ Top and featured the Kentucky Headhunters and Black Stone Cherry.

Bo Burr of PickAxe Promotions said the Summerfest has been a long time in the making, and the company, which is also helping bring country music star Clint Black to Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center on April 7, has additional events planned at the ballpark for later in the year.

“As a company, we’re doing our best to bring the best talent possible to Bowling Green,” Burr said. “It’s a market that I think is ready for it.”

Tickets will range from $65 for general admission and lower level seats to $110 for premium stadium club seats. Tickets will be available starting April 8 and can be purchased online at bghotrods.com, by calling 270-901-2121 or by visiting the Bowling Green Hot Rods box office at the ballpark.
