My first job was … carpet installer sanitation engineer. I cleaned everything up after my father finished laying carpet.
The best advice I ever got was … “It’s never too late” (2010, from Robert Wilson Sr.). Following my father’s advice motivated me to complete college after 27 years in the Marines and Army. This allowed me to move on to teaching at Western Kentucky University and now SKYCTC.
My hero (and why) is … I have three.
1. God. He has guided me through the darkest times of war, internally as well as externally. He has never ceased to amaze me with his grace.
2. My father. He taught me to be self-supporting, strong in the face of adversity, honest to one’s self and others. His strength and tenacity allowed him to fight COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) years longer than expected.
3. My brother Larry W. Wilson. He has always been there to assist or advise whenever needed. Although he was the youngest, I was the wanderer and tended to stray from the path often. His strength and commitment to his family are beyond measure. He, too, has surpassed the medical expectation of life due to the cancer he is currently fighting.
These three men keep me grounded and focused on my family and faith.
