Kentucky Kings cruise in opening round of TBT
Former Western Kentucky star Jeremy Evans posted 23 points and 14 rebounds Saturday, leading the Kentucky Kings to a 94-74 win against The Citi Team in the first round of The Basketball Tournament.
The Kentucky Kings are competing this weekend in the South Regional of the 64-team, single-elimination tournament. They’re the No. 4 seed at the regional, played at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C.
Evans’ fellow former Hilltoppers A.J. Slaughter, Steffphon Pettigrew and Tyrone Brazelton added six, four and two points apiece, with Slaughter dishing out six assists. The team is coached by former WKU player and assistant David Boyden.
Former college standouts Erving Walker (Florida), Scotty Hopson (Tennessee) and Eric Buckner (Georgia State) scored 23, 19 and 14 points, respectively.
Former Massachusetts player Anthony Gurley led The Citi Team with 16 points.
Next up for the Kentucky Kings will be a second-round matchup with Tampa Bulls (USF Alumni). Tipoff is 10 a.m. CDT, with the game being streamed on WatchESPN.
