Hilltoppers announce 2017-18 track & field schedule

Western Kentucky coach Erik Jenkins announced the program’s upcoming 2017-18 schedule Wednesday, which features five meets across the indoor and outdoor seasons in either Kentucky or Tennessee. The program will host the WKU Hilltoppers Relays on April 6-7.

Indoor action kicked off last weekend at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener and will resume Jan. 12-13 with WKU heading to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Purdue-hosted Fred Wilt Open.

The following weekend, the Hilltoppers will be at another two-day outing when the squad heads to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Commodore Invitational (Jan. 19-20). WKU will return to Indiana to close January competition at the Indiana University Relays in Bloomington on Jan. 26-27.

Jenkins’ squad will kick off February competition at the Southern Illinois University Don Denoon Invitational on Feb. 2-3 in Carbondale, Ill. Regular-season action will conclude in Nashville with the two-day Vanderbilt Music City Challenge on Feb. 9-10.

Conference USA Championships will be in Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 17-18. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be March 9-10 in College Station, Texas.

Outdoor action is set to kick off March 22-23 in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational. The following weekend, the Hilltoppers will be at the Florida Pepsi Relays in Gainesville, Fla.

WKU will invite competitors to Bowling Green for the two-day WKU Hilltopper Relays from April 6-7. The following weekend, the team will head to the Austin Peay Invitational in Clarksville, Tenn., before splitting the squad and heading to both Georgia Tech and the Mt. SAC Relays on April 20-21.

Regular-season action will conclude April 28 in Louisville.

Outdoor Conference USA Championships from Houston will be May 10-13 on the Rice campus. Two weeks later, WKU will send representatives to the NCAA East Preliminary in Tampa, Fla., from May 24-26.

The NCAA Championships will conclude the 2018 slate. Championship action will again take place in Eugene, Ore., with competition set for June 6-9.
