Arts Alive!, a Bowling Green Christain theatre organization has announced its upcoming summer theatre camps.  Two week long camps, one for 6-9 year olds and one for 10 – 12 year olds, will take place July 19-23. 

According to the organization “Throughout the week they will discover the magic of theatre while rehearsing, building a set, and finally presenting a short play with a Christian theme.  Instruction will focus on building confidence, stage presence, and public speaking skills, as well as the art of developing a character and portraying it on stage.”  In addition the camp for older youth will explore the technical side of the theatre.

Arts Alive! also offers a Theatre Extreme Camp – “an intense theatre experience for 13-17 year-olds, designed to resemble summer stock theatre…  They will write, design, paint, saw, sew, act, etc., deeply entrenched in the fast paced life of show business.”  The Theatre Extreme Camp will take place July 1-10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

And finally the Little Stars one day camp for 4-5 year olds returns. “Students will rehearse a short play, paint a set, grab a costume, and perform by the end of the day.”  Little Stars takes place July 24.

Executive Director Heather Bitterling describes the Arts Alive! mission saying: We know that many families out there are doing their best to teach godly character and Biblical worldviews to their children. This is the core of raising the Christian leaders of tomorrow, but we also need to give these young people a voice. We need to equip them with public speaking skills, confidence, and the grace to stand up and speak out for the faith. For all of our Arts Alive! programs, we hire Christian teachers with degrees and experience in the arts. We strive to build confidence in youth by highlighting the unique gifts and talents that God has given each of them, and by encouraging them to use those gifts to glorify Him.”
