WKU students recognized nationally for journalism

Journalism students at Western Kentucky University have been recognized once again in this year’s Hearst Journalism Awards Program. 

College students studying journalism compete in yearlong Hearst program competitions in writing, photojournalism, broadcast news and multimedia. The national championships in photojournalism, multimedia, writing and broadcast news were held from May 30 to Thursday. 

This year, Owensboro senior Brittany Greeson is the national photojournalism champion and received a $5,000 award Thursday in San Francisco. She re-ceived another $1,000 for Best Portfolio. 

Alyse Young, a senior from Redmond, Wash., finished second in the national multimedia championship. She took home a $4,000 award. 

Nick Wagner, a senior from Ada, Minn., was among six photojournalism finalists, earning $1,500. 

WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting finished in third overall after winning the Intercollegiate Multimedia Competition and finishing second in the Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition.
