Expo to have health and wellness information under one roof

The Health and Wellness Expo will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sloan Convention Center at 1021 Wilkinson Trace.

Admission is free. No registration is required. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the event.

“We will have 72 exhibitors that will be providing health information, health screenings as well as a number of demonstrations throughout the morning,” said Doris Thomas, vice president of marketing for Commonwealth Health Corp., parent company of The Medical Center.

The event sponsored by The Med Center Health and WBKO-TV will include demonstrations and free screenings for body fat, stroke, blood glucose, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, bone density and other items.

“For the blood sugar checks, people should fast for eight hours or more for accurate results,” Thomas said.

The demonstrations will include a cooking demo with Beet Box Home Produce Delivery at 8:30 a.m., a kid’s fitness demo with Bowling Green Department of Parks and Recreation at 9 a.m., dancing with the Rockerz dance team at 9:30 a.m., Hot Yoga with Tony Bishop at 10 a.m., Pound Fit Drumstick Workout demo with Bowling Green Athletic Club at 10:30 a.m. and the Jumpin’ Jaguars competition level jump rope team at 11 a.m. There will also be hands-only CPR demonstrations throughout the event.

“There will be a lot of good health resources under one roof that you can take advantage of,” Thomas said.

The expo is scheduled at the same time each year, Thomas said.

“We always schedule those in January because we know people are focused on making health-related changes at that time,” she said. “This seems like a good time to provide those resources so we can help them be successful as they try to improve their health.”

Community Wellness Director Sarah Widener agreed.

“It’s the beginning of the year. They say new year, new you,” she said. “People make New Year’s resolutions. This is a way to get all health information in one place.”

The expo is one of Med Center Health’s big events, Widener said.

“We’re always trying to do things for the community,” she said. “I think people have fun and enjoy it and take care of their health at the same time.”
