Purples sweep Great Gator Invitational

Bowling Green won both the boys’ and girls’ competition Friday night in the Great Gator Invitational at Greenwood High School.

Bowling Green’s boys’ team tallied 105 points to top runner-up Greenwood (85) and third-place finishers Franklin-Simpson (82) and Warren East (82). Thirteen teams competed in the boys’ meet.

In the girls’ meet, Bowling Green finished with 115 points to hold off runner-up South Warren (110) and third-place Greenwood (105) in the 14-team competition.

Bowling Green’s Jasmine Varner was named the Outstanding Female Track Athlete. Varner scored first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (16.97 seconds) and 300 hurdles (49.56). She also ran a leg on the Lady Purples’ first-place 400-meter relay, joining Grace Klusty, Z’Nyah Owens and Trinity Tardy to finish in 52.26 seconds.

The Purples’ Devito Tisdale earned the Outstanding Male Track Athlete honor. Tisdale won the 100-meter dash (11.76), the long jump (19 feet, 9.50 inches) and joined teammates Dazhon Blakey, Devan Jackson and Jarius Key in winning the 800-meter relay (1:35.17).

South Warren’s Molly Elder won the Outstanding Female Field Athlete award. Elder tallied first-place finishes in both the long jump (15-01.00) and triple jump (34-00.75).

Edmonson County’s Brett Brannon claimed the Outstanding Male Field Athlete honor. Brannon was second in the discus (115-04) and fourth in the shot put (40-01.50).

Also winning for Bowling Green’s girls’ team were Grace Klusty in the 100-meter dash (13.60) and Laila Robinson in the high jump (4-08).

Klusty, Owens, Tardy and Cailey Walker combined to win the 800-meter relay in 1:54.65.

South Warren’s girls also got wins from Caroline Haas in the 1,600 (5:43.36), Haylee White in the 3,200 (12:22.92) and Abby Minnicks in the shot put (28-01.00).

Greenwood’s girls scored firsts with Rose Mary Jackson in the 400 (1:03.40), Kelsey Dinning in the 800 (2:33.68) and Madison Duncan in the shot put adapted wheelchair (14-00.00). The Lady Gators also picked up a relay victory, as Lynda Scannell, Hope Leeper, Anne Logan Perkins and Dinning combined to win the 3,200 relay in 10:40.28.

Bowling Green’s boys’ team picked up wins from John Downing in the 110 hurdles (16.99) and 300 hurdles (43.59) and Deshawn Crowe in the 400 (52.71).

Greenwood’s Chaz Zikus won the boys’ discus (116-08).

Warren East’s boys got firsts from Jacob Williams in the 200 (24.03), Jacob England in the 3,200 (10:19.68), Jackson Harrell in the triple jump (40-09.50) and KJ Carter in the 100-meter dash unified ambulatory (15.44) and 400 unified ambulatory (1:03.47).

Franklin-Simpson’s Ollie Eutsey won the high jump (5-08.00) and the Wildcats’ quartet of James Baker, Trey Radcliffe, Josiah Robey and Cain Newland won the 400 relay in 46.12 seconds.

Logan County’s Damanuel Barbee, Gage Cousineau, Evan Hughes and Devin Roche combined to win the 1,600 relay (3:38.82).
