Lady Tops’ Tyree named C-USA Golfer of the Week

Western Kentucky’s Bailey Tyree has won her first Conference USA Women’s Golfer of the Week award, the league announced Wednesday.

The junior Tyree put together her best performance to date this week at WKU’s own Spring Break Shootout in Florida, finishing third with a career-low, 1-under 212 (68-73-71) total.

Tyree’s 212 is tied for the third-lowest 54-hole individual score in Lady Topper history. She tied with a teammate for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring.

Tyree set career lows for 18 and 36 holes Monday, including a first-round 68, which ties for the fourth-lowest single round in program history.

Her efforts helped WKU shatter its previous program records for 18-, 36- and 54-hole team score. The Lady Toppers broke their previous record for 54 holes by 11 strokes Tuesday with a 5-over 857.

They tied co-host Florida Gulf Coast in the team standings, but dropped to second on a fifth-player tiebreaker.

Tyree’s first career C-USA weekly honor is WKU’s fourth of the season from three different golfers. Junior Mary Joiner won back-to-back awards to open the season, and sophomore Megan Clarke closed the fall with her first career weekly accolade.

The Lady Toppers’ next tournament is the Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate on April 1-2 in Germantown, Tenn.
