Whitlow paces Lady Tops to 2nd-place finish at Golden Eagle Invite

Western Kentucky’s Heather Whitlow paced the Lady Toppers to a second-place finish in the women’s race at the Golden Eagle Invite hosted by Tennessee Tech on Saturday in Cookeville, Tenn.

Whitlow placed fourth overall in the three-team meet, finishing in 21 minutes, 58.2 seconds. Also running for WKU were Morgan Kannapel (sixth, 22:49.2), Brianna Wolken (seventh, 23:15.1), Aairiona Hayden-Ransom (10th, 25:54.5) and Abby Luce (11th, 26:13.2).

Host Tennessee Tech won the women’s competition. Tennessee Tech’s Purity Sanga (17:50.5) was the individual winner.

In the men’s race, the Hilltoppers finished third out of four teams. Running for WKU were Matthew Wininger (13th, 22:28.4), Emerson Wells (15th, 22:38.6), Dedrick Troxell (17th, 22:54.4), Luke Hoover (18th, 23:09.8) and Michael Sherman (19th, 23:12.6).

Ohio State won the men’s team competition. Tennessee Tech’s Sammy Kipkirui (20:16.8) won the men’s individual title.

WKU returns to action Sept. 15 at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville.
