Glasgow Plaza Elvis birthday celebration to feature traveling tribute artists
Glasgow Plaza Theater will honor the King with a show Saturday that features the talents of three Elvis Presley tribute artists.
Carolyn Glodfelter, the Plaza’s executive director, said the Plaza is bringing “Memories of Elvis,” a touring Elvis Presley tribute show, to Glasgow for the fourth annual Elvis Birthday Party.
“There will actually be three different performers who will be doing three different versions of Elvis, which is going to be fabulous,” she said.
The show will feature Matthew Boyce, who will be portraying Elvis in the early stages of his career; Sylvain LeDuc, playing Elvis circa his 1973 “Aloha From Hawaii” concert; and Patrick Johnson, who will be portraying Elvis from the Las Vegas residency stage of his career, Glodfelter said.
“They’re highly professional and we’re just really excited to have them here,” she said. “We’re really pushing it up to the next level.”
The show is scheduled Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30, according to historicplaza.com.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, the website said.
The Elvis Birthday Party has been a hit in Glasgow year after year, Glodfelter said, adding that it provides something to do in the sparser winter months.
“It’s something to break up the winter,” she said. “We were lucky to have him born in January to get everyone out there.”
Glodfelter said she imagines Elvis’ enduring popularity in Glasgow and elsewhere is owed largely to his iconic status.
“He’s an icon of his own era, but because of the passion of the time period, that love has just carried on,” she said.
