Tibbs provides strong start for Panthers in win

Kentucky Wesleyan junior starting pitcher Austin Tibbs (Greenwood Class of 2013) went six strong innings to help the Panthers earn a baseball doubleheader split against Great Midwest Athletic Conference rival Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) on Sunday.

Tibbs, a left-hander, got the starting assignment and pitched six innings for the win. He allowed two earned runs off three hits and four walks while striking out four. Tibbs improved his record to 4-2 this season as the Panthers earned a 5-3 win at Jack Funk Field in Philippi, W.Va.

Kentucky Wesleyan (29-12 overall, 14-2 G-MAC) is back in action Friday with a home doubleheader against G-MAC rival Cedarville (Ohio).

Lindsey Wilson senior first baseman Ryan Harper (Logan County Class of 2012) had a pair of hits and an RBI in Sunday’s 9-6 baseball loss to Saint Catharine.

Despite the defeat, the Blue Raiders finished as regular-season co-champions in the Mid-South Conference.

Lindsey Wilson (33-20 overall, 13-8 Mid-South) will be the No. 2 overall seed in the Mid-South tournament. The Blue Raiders host University of the Cumberlands in a first-round, best-of-three series starting on Friday.

Spalding University freshman third baseman Matt Harper (Logan County Class of 2015) had a solid day at the plate in an otherwise rough Sunday for the Golden Eagles at Derby Field in Louisville.

Spalding dropped both ends of a doubleheader against visiting St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) rival Washington (Mo.). In Game 4, Harper had a hit and an RBI in Spalding’s 5-4 loss. Harper added a double in the nightcap, a 22-5 loss for the Golden Eagles.

Spalding (22-13 overall, 12-6 SLIAC) is back in action Friday at conference rival Webster (Mo.) for a doubleheader.

Olney Central College (Ill.) redshirt freshman Ryan Hinkley (Glasgow Class of 2014) had a pair of base hits for the Blue Knights on Sunday in a 21-4 loss to Rend Lake College (Ill.).

Olney Central (37-14 overall, 13-9 Great Lakes Athletic Conference) is back in action Monday with a home doubleheader against Lake Land College (Ill.).
