Greenwood powers by ACS 13-10

Cade Thorton’s three-run home run in the seventh inning gave Greenwood a 13-10 baseball win Tuesday at Allen County-Scottsville.

Explosive innings told the tale as the Gators (18-12) and Patriots (11-10) combined for 24 hits. Greenwood jumped out to a 9-0 lead with seven hits capped by Mac Ausbrook’s two-run triple in the second inning.

Franklin-Simpson 10,

Bowling Green 8

The Wildcats (22-9) held off a late rally by the Purples to win 10-8. Bowling Green (15-9) scored on an error and a Joe Howard RBI single in the top of the seventh, but Trevor Dennis grounded into a double play to end the game.

Howard’s home run in the third inning tied the game at 4, but Franklin-Simpson broke away with five runs with two outs in the fourth.

Softball

Bowling Green 7, Franklin-Simpson 4 (Game 1)

The Lady Purples (8-13) took an early 4-0 lead and held on to defeat Franklin-Simpson (12-22) in game one of a doubleheader.

Leadoff hitter Gia Martin tripled on three at-bats and drove in four runs. Martin scored in the first off Emma Bennett’s RBI triple, then Bennett scored on Kassidy Mason’s single in the first inning.

Franklin-Simpson 4, Bowling Green 0 (Game 2)

Madison Davis pitched a four-hit shutout to earn Franklin-Simpson a 4-0 win in game two of the doubleheader. Davis struck out six and walked three on 97 pitches in a complete game.

The Lady Wildcats held a 1-0 lead through four innings before breaking through in the fifth on Raegan Coffee’s two-run single and Lizzy Weems’ RBI.

South Warren 7,

Muhlenberg County 3

The Spartans pulled away with six runs across the fifth and sixth innings to beat Muhlenberg County 7-3.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, South Warren (18-5) scored on a Jessica Bush single and two errors. Muhlenberg County committed six errors for the game.
