Sargent, McDaniel pace Tops in opening round at Zoeller Invitational
Play was suspended for rain before the completion of two full rounds Saturday at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, with the Western Kentucky men’s golf team tied for fourth through one full round in Henryville, Ind.
The Hilltoppers fired a 3-over 291 in the opening round of the Indiana-hosted event at the par-72, 7,174-yard Champions Pointe Golf Club. Southern Illinois leads the field with a 13-under 275 in the first round.
Teams will resume play at 7:30 a.m. CT on Sunday in the halted second round, and play will be continuous into the third round.
Redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent and redshirt freshman Dawson McDaniel paced WKU in the opening round with a pair of even-par 72s. They’re each tied for 18th individually.
McDaniel was making his college tournament debut, as was true freshman Dominic Brettkelly, who carded a 1-over 73 in his first action and is tied for 25th.
Redshirt junior Linus Lo shot a 2-over 74, tying him for 36th, while junior Tom Bevington finished with a 5-over 77.
