Second Annual Pedal for the Park Registration Open

The Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park’s Second Annual Pedal for the Park will be on May 11, 2013. Registration is now open at www.friendsofmammothcave.org. The event will offer three new ride routes this year and provide for a variety of abilities (75 miles, 40 miles, and 27 miles). All rides will begin and end at Mammoth Cave National Park’s picnic area near the Visitor Center at 8:00 a.m. The registration fee is $30 and those who register by May 9 get extra benefits. Full details are available at the website.

“New this year will be a Friday night event on May 10 at Park Mammoth Resort called Rider Round-up, said Gayle Giesecke, Executive Director. “It will be a chance for late registration, a great pasta meal, and entertainment with live music. We encourage the bicyclists in the area to come out for both Pedal for the Park events, making a great Mother’s Day weekend for the whole family.”

“This is a great opportunity to enjoy the park and surrounding countryside while supporting the Friends and the Park,” added Henry Holman, Friends Board Chairman. “The Friends is a non-profit that works to support Park programs and activities, so the more participation we have, the more we can accomplish. The Student Transportation Grant program is a primary project we’re sponsoring right now that helps bring children to the park for an outdoor educational experience. It’s amazing to learn how many children have never done anything like it before.”
