WKU guard Edmond tweets that he’ll play professionally overseas

Western Kentucky junior guard Fredrick Edmond said on Twitter on Thursday evening that he’s headed to play professionally overseas.

Edmond said over a pair of tweets that he has signed a pro agreement and will not play college basketball his senior year. He told the Daily News in a message that he was unsure where he was headed.

It was announced Saturday that Edmond has signed with Free Agency Basketball.

Edmond was suspended from WKU’s basketball program March 17 along with freshmen Chris McNeal and Marlon Hunter following the outcome of a University Disciplinary Committee hearing on the evening of March 16. Coach Ray Harper resigned on the morning of March 17.

No information concerning the disciplinary charges or outcome has been released by the university to this point because of federal privacy law. All three players were still listed as enrolled students as of this week, although new coach Rick Stansbury, athletic director Todd Stewart and President Gary Ransdell made it clear Monday they’re not expected to return.

Edmond averaged 12.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in his first season with the Hilltoppers after transferring from junior college. He started 27 of 33 games.
