Fire department alert system on commission agenda

A $305,000 bid for a new fire department station alerting system is on a short agenda for Tuesday’s Bowling Green City Commission meeting.

The fire department issued a request for proposals in 2016 for a new station alerting system. Three bids were received, the lowest being from US Digital Designs of Tempe, Ariz. Fire Chief Jason Colson is requesting that bid, for $304,874.25, be accepted by commissioners.

According to a Colson memo, the new system will reduce dispatch call processing and apparatus response times, decrease the workload on dispatchers, eliminate having to place callers on hold to dispatch units and increase overall efficiency.

Also on the agenda for Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. meeting at city hall are:

•amending the city’s procedures regarding agencies that can receive city funding. The proposed order calls for adding the United Way of Southern Kentucky as a contracted agency, eligible for funding, for its 211 information line service, and removing the Central Region Innovation and Commercialization Center as a contracted agency eligible for funding.

•approving applying for a $54,454 grant from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security for the purchase of police car radios.
