Fashionista to the Rescue: Fabulous Fall

September in Kentucky can present some fashion challenges.  One day it is 95 degrees outside and the next morning you walk out the door and the temperature has plummeted overnight to below 50!  In this transition period for fashion, a fashionista must be creative with her wardrobe and rely on a few key pieces to get her through until winter hits.

I personally live by my light weight cardigans each fall.  Throw over a tank or tee and this layering piece is just enough to keep you warm while not suffocating you.  Look for ones that have a feminine touch, like ruffles or lace.

While on vacation this summer I discovered my new favorite brand of jeans.  Sucker Jeans is a Charleston based company that cuts an amazing pair of jeans made out of seersucker material.  Perfect for hot September tailgates, these will give you the look of jeans while keeping you cool. Available in a variety of shades and patterns their classic straight leg in dark blue should be your first investment from them.  Once you are hooked on this brand, look at purchasing one of their styles with a little more flair.  I’m dying for their pinstriped pair in grey!

One of my all time favorite things to wear is a classic shirt dress. Complementary to any body shape, this should be a staple in your closet.  Solids are always great but I love a plaid for fall. My shirt dress designer of choice is award winning Southern designer Billy Reid.  Always offering several each collection, I can’t wait to see what he pulls out for fall.

If you are going to invest in one piece this season, make it a great pair of boots.  Whether your style leans more toward equestrian or cowboy, a great pair will have a prime spot in your closet and heart.  Now, if you are one of the lucky few who can spend $1000+ on a pair, look at Gucci’s fall collection. Phenomenal.  Otherwise, I love a great pair of Frey’s.  Classic, timeless and sure to become your fall go to piece.

Fall is by far my favorite time of the year considering all the great events that are available to us here in Kentucky.  With tailgating, Keeneland and fall festivals almost every weekend, I’m sure you will be able to fill your weekends with fabulous friends and amazing outfits!
