Cougars’ Hendricks wins Fairgrounds Frenzy boys’ title
Logan County senior John Hendricks claimed the boys’ individual championship Saturday in the Fairgrounds Frenzy cross country meet held at the Hardin County Fairgrounds.
Hendricks completed the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 17.92 seconds.
Warren East senior Colton Bullington was second in 17:20.90.
Greenwood’s Cole Jackson (seventh, 17:40.12) and Warren East’s Will Lovell (eighth, 17:47.60) and Garrett Elrod (16th, 18:28.73) also produced top-20 finishes.
Central Hardin won the boys’ team title with 70 points. Warren East was third (150). Other area schools in the 24-team field included Greenwood (fifth, 153), Logan County (11th, 290), Barren County (17th, 412), Edmonson County (19th, 448), Glasgow (20th, 537) and Warren Central (21st, 619).
In the girls’ race, Greenwood eighth-grader Alexi Lancette had the highest finish among area runners with a 23rd-place showing in 23:26.20.
Grayson County’s Hailey Stallings won the girls’ race in 20:43.04.
Butler won the girls’ title with 97 points. Area schools competing included Greenwood (ninth, 219), Warren East (15th, 421) and Edmonson County (17th, 441).
Franklin County Invitational
South Warren senior Luke Spurrier’s sixth-place finish in Saturday’s Franklin County Invitational helped the Spartans to a third-place finish in the boys’ team standings.
Spurrier finished the 5K course in 17:17.84.
South Warren senior Kyle Woodward also added a top-20 finish with his 17th-place effort in 17:45.06.
Oldham County (76 points) won the 28-team boys’ meet. South Warren finished with 138 points.
In the girls’ meet, Spartans eighth-grader Megan Kitchens had her team’s highest finish (21st, 21:16.95). South Warren finished fourth in the team standings with 210 points.
Oldham County (38 points) won the 31-team girls’ meet.
Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational
Bowling Green senior Kristin Dent turned in an 11th-place finish to lead her team at Saturday’s Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
Dent finished the 5K course in 20:27.30, helping the Lady Purples to a 14th-place finish (396 points) in the 29-team field. Medina (Ohio) won the girls’ team title with 149 points.
In the boys’ race, Bowling Green junior Gabe Wiles led his team with a 17th-place finish in 17:23.10. Thomas Tinius (31st), Deshawn Crowe (33rd) and Cole Renfrow (37th) and Ryan Dent (73rd) helped the Purples take third in the team standings with 176 points.
Medina won the boys’ meet with 93 points.
Colonel Classic
Warren Central’s boys’ soccer team earned a draw against Evansville (Ind.) Mater Dei before dropping a one-goal decision to Elizabethtown on Saturday in the Colonel Classic at Henderson County.
Against Mater Dei, Warren Central (11-5-1) got goals from Fahrudin Alic and Jimmy Estrada to earn a 2-all tie. Alic also had an assist.
In a 3-2 loss to Elizabethtown, Estrada had both goals with assists from Alic and Kaung Hein.
The Dragons return to action Thursday at Warren East.
