Ex-ACS teammates Young, Rippy square off in key Mid-South softball series

A pair of former high school teammates squared off in a big Mid-South Conference softball series this past weekend when Georgetown visited Campbellsville for four games.

The Tigers took three of four, but Georgetown won the finale on Saturday to deal Campbellsville its first conference loss of the year.

In Friday’s 5-4 win for Campbellsville, Georgetown junior outfielder Katie Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2014) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and scored a run.

Campbellsville also won Game 2 by a 9-2 margin, and Tigers senior Brittany Rippy (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2013) had a hit and scored a run.

Young picked up another hit in Campbellsville’s 3-2 win on Saturday, and Rippy went 3–for-3 with a double and scored a run in Georgetown’s 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Campbellsville (30-8 overall, 17-1 Mid-South Conference) is back in action Tuesday at Kentucky Christian for a doubleheader. Georgetown also has a road doubleheader Tuesday against Cumberlands.

Tennessee Martin junior catcher Aeron Smith helped the Skyhawks win three of four home softball matchups this past weekend.

In Saturday’s 5-4 loss to Murray State, Smith was 2-for-4 at the plate. UT Martin rebounded for a 6-4 win in the nightcap, and Smith chipped in with an RBI.

On Sunday, Smith had a 1-for-3 out with a run scored in the Skyhawks’ 8-2 win over Austin Peay.

UT Martin (28-12, 7-3 Ohio Valley Conference) is back in action Tuesday with a road doubleheader at Evansville.

Lindsey Wilson junior third baseman Amy Rogers (Butler County Class of 2014) helped the Blue Raiders to a four-game sweep of Mid-South Conference rival Cumberlands over the weekend.

Rogers totaled three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for Lindsey Wilson (30-7, 16-0 Mid-South Conference). The Blue Raiders are back in action Monday with a home doubleheader against Cumberland (Tenn.).

Bethel (Tenn.) junior catcher Emmi Thurmond (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2014) helped her team get off to a strong start on an arduous softball road trip.

Thurmond was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in Bethel’s 15-4 win at Brewton-Parker (Ga.), the first of three straight road doubleheaders for the team.

Bethel (20-18, 5-13 Southern States Athletic Conference) is back in action Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Williams Baptist (Ark.).

Midway junior third baseman Lynsie Clark (Butler County Class of 2014) had a 2-for-3 effort in Saturday’s 1-0 road softball loss to No. 22 Rio Grande (Ohio).

Midway (13-15) is back in action Wednesday at home for a doubleheader against Cumberlands.

Brescia senior Morgan Manning (Butler County Class of 2013) had a solid weekend despite a tough stretch for the Bearcats.

Manning tallied three hits over a weekend that saw Brescia lose back-to-back road doubleheaders. 

Brescia (11-17, 5-5 River States Conference) is back in action April 21 at Cincinnati Christian for a doubleheader.

Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) third baseman Bailey Alexander (Glasgow Class of 2014) produced a 2-for-3 effort at the plate in Saturday’s 17-0 road softball win over Ohio Valley (W.Va.).

Alexander had a double, two RBIs and scored a run in the win.

Trevecca Nazarene (19-20) is back in action April 14 at home for a doubleheader against Cedarville (Ohio).
