Fight leads to fiery crash

While two people were fighting outside their vehicle on the Cumberland Parkway ramp off Interstate 65, another vehicle traveling onto the ramp was unable to stop and crashed into the parked vehicle. Both vehicles caught fire, according to a Barren County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The accident happened at 8:24 p.m. Wednesday after Danny J. Dean, 36, of Monticello, was driving his 2014 Dodge Ram pickup on the ramp when he became involved in a fight with his passenger, Shelley L. Lair, 32, also of Monticello.

“During the altercation the vehicle was stopped on the ramp, at which point Lair took the keys and threw them out the window and then exited the vehicle. The altercation continued on the side of the road,” the report said.

A 2006 Saturn driven by Ann Cash, 25, of Glasgow, entered the ramp, striking the rear of Dean’s vehicle. Cash was able to exit her vehicle as both vehicles caught on fire.

Deputies determined both Dean and Lair were under the influence of alcohol, the release said. Dean was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, while Lair was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, first-degree disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Both were taken to the Barren County Detention Center in Glasgow. Dean was released Thursday. Lair remained jailed Thursday morning without bond.

Cash was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for treatment of what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
