DIY on a budget: Break Out The Decorations Because Fall Has Arrived
It doesn’t matter if you call it autumn or if you like to say fall, it’s officially here and I’m very excited. I love just about everything that fall has to offer from the pumpkins to the scarecrows and now is the time to break out the fall decorations to help celebrate the season. One of my favorite items to decorate with is a fall flower topiary that I made. It’s very simple in construction and it adds a lot of color to any fall décor. It can be displayed anywhere from a table top to a mantle but I usually put mine by the front door to greet my guest as they enter.
To make the topiary, you will need to purchase a topiary form from any craft store. Use hot glue and secure the base of the form inside any pot. I chose a terra cotta pot because of its design and inexpensive cost. You will need to purchase several artificial flowers and use some wire cutters to cut the flower bud away from the stem. The quantity that you need will depend on the size of the topiary form. For the one that I made, seven bunches of flowers was sufficient. Once you have all of the buds cut, discard the stems and stick the tips of the flowers into the form. If you use different colors of flowers like I did, I suggest you arrange the flowers with different colors all over. It will look a lot better than grouping them by color in a section. I also suggest you overlap the edges of the flowers to make sure you have adequate coverage and none of the form shows.
Once you cover the entire topiary form your project is complete. If you want to take it a step further, you can embellish the pot by painting it or adding ribbon. You can make it as simple or detailed as you want. Get creative and use different forms besides topiary. You can apply the same technique to a foam wreath that will look fabulous hanging on your door. Whatever style and shape you decide, it will be a great addition to your home that will help make your guests and family enjoy the fall season and its entire splendor!
