Schedule for first Newgrass Festival television episodes released
In 2011 the 3rd annual International Newgrass Festival hosted by the Kentucky Blues Society at Ballance Motox in Oakland, Kentucky was filmed in high definition by KET. The footage has been edited into fourteen hour-long segments for their series Jubilee: A celebration of American Music. Several have been scheduled to air beginning in August. After their debut the episodes will be syndicated to PBS stations throughout the country.
KET’s Jubilee series premiered in 1996 and features national acts as well as local music who perform at folk music festivals in Kentucky.
Festival Director Kenny Lee said of the upcoming programs, “This is a momentous achievement for the Kentucky Blues Society… fourteen hours that will allow the world to see the greatness of the art form that began right here… and we owe it all to the fine folks at KET, our sponsors, and those who have supported our work on the behalf of Newgrass music.”
The world premiere of the first episode will take place at SKyPAC in early August.
The Kentucky Blues Society is dedicated to preserving the great American tradition of blues music and culture in Kentucky. The society began hosting the Newgrass Festival in 2009. The first three events were held at Ballance Motox in Warren County Kentucky in late August.
In 2012 plans are underway to relocate the Newgrass Festival to the downtown Bowling Green area the first weekend in October. A multivenue event is anticipated with the main stage being featured at the Bowling Green Ballpark. Sam Bush, the father of Newgrass, is among the artists expected to return for this year’s event.
