Elkins’ 4-hit day helps Raiders past Cumberland Co.

An early 3-0 deficit wasn’t enough to put away the Spartans softball team. South Warren hit five home runs – two from Shelby Nunn – to defeat Barren County 12-3 and improve to 23-0.

Lexi Isabel hit a three-run shot over the fence to push the Spartans in front 4-3 in the second inning. Nunn and Alexis Helderman each had two-run homers in the fourth to stretch the lead to 9-3.

Nunn hit another two-run homer in the the fifth to cap the rally. Madison Stumbo also went yard and hit 3-for-4 at the plate. Sonya Merritt homered for Barren County (17-7) in the first inning off of Karson Williams, who gave up all three runs and lasted four innings in the start.

Allen County-Scottsville 9, Bowling Green 2

Kalee Skaggs was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs to lead host Allen County-Scottsville to a 9-2 softball win Tuesday over Bowling Green.

Ryley Whitney added two hits for the Lady Patriots, who improved to 13-11. Emma Bennett stole home in the top of the sixth inning to put Bowling Green (4-14) on the board and Nataia Martin scored on an error.

Todd County Central 0,

Allie Pendleton homered and tripled as part of a 3-for-3 day at the plate to lead host Franklin-Simpson to a 10-0 victory over Todd County Central shortened to five innings via the mercy rule Tuesday.

Pendleton scored three runs, tallied two RBIs and stole a base for the Lady Wildcats. Kaeliegh Tuck was also 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Makinlee Webb homered and drove in three runs.

Also for Franklin-Simpson (14-12), Dru Knight drove in three runs and earned the win after pitching all five innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five.

Logan County 13, Russellville 8

Logan County’s Kennedy Nichols homered, doubled and drove in six runs to lead the Lady Cougars to a 13-8 softball win over host Russellville on Tuesday.

Nichols had three hits total. Blayke Bingham added three hits, including a double, and three RBIs for Logan County (11-9). Abby Canler tallied a pair of hits and three RBIs, Brea Croslin had a triple among her two hits, and Presley Harris, Abby Hinton and Sydney Lee also had two hits each.

Russellville fell to 4-13-1.

Baseball

Warren East 10, Cumberland County 5

Colson Elkins had a perfect day at the plate for visiting Warren East on Tuesday, going 4-for-4 to lead the Raiders to a 10-5 win over Cumberland County in Burkesville.

Elkins had a double and three RBIs in the win.

Ryan Hawks was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI, and Austin Hymer went 3-for-5 with a double, and RBI and two stolen bases for Warren East (20-6).

Andrew McWhorter started and got the win, striking out five in four innings. Matt Alford tossed three scoreless, hitless innings to earn the save.

Allen County-Scottsville 3, Greenwood 2

Visiting Greenwood dropped a 3-2 decision to Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday.

Addison Harris led the Gators with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate, tallying a run and a stolen base.

Connor Cline and Dell Henk had an RBI each for Greenwood (14-16).

Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Patriots rallied for three runs to win it. Brett Rippy had had the walk-off RBI single for the Pats.

Allen County-Scottsville improved to 12-14.

Host Franklin-Simpson dropped a 2-0 decision in eight innings to visiting Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) on Tuesday.

Ryan Dorris started and pitched all eight innings for the Wildcats. He allowed only two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Franklin-Simpson (20-5) totaled just two hits, singles by Rylan Thomas and Quentin Kitchens.

Grayson County 1, Butler County 0

Despite a strong outing by starting pitcher Gage Ward, visiting Butler County dropped a 1-0 decision to Grayson County on Tuesday.

Ward tossed a complete game, allowing only one unearned run off one hit and two walks while fanning seven in six innings.

Warren Cameron led the Bears at the plate with a pair of hits. Butler County dropped to 12-10 overall.
