Woman injured after car is struck by train

A southbound CSX train struck a 2010 Nissan Altima on Thursday on Ky. 240 in Woodburn.

The impact of the collision sent the car spinning into the backyard of Harold Logan, who lives at 108 Main St.

The driver, Chelsey Beller, 22, of Bowling Green, was the only occupant of the westbound car and was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center and later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Kentucky State Police Post 3 spokesman Trooper B.J. Eaton said. Beller’s injuries were not considered to be life threatening at the time of the wreck.

Beller was listed at 2:35 p.m. Thursday in stable condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

“She did not yield at the railroad crossing and was struck by a southbound train,” Eaton said. Police were called at 8:49 a.m.

Logan was in the front of his home and didn’t see anything until his girlfriend, Jo Driver, told him that a car was in his backyard.

“I came to get me some ice, and I saw the railroad men out here in the yard,” Driver said.

She walked outside, asked Beller if she was OK and asked if anyone else had been in the car with her.

“I said, ‘Are you OK?’ ” Driver said. “She mumbled a little. I went to see if she had any life-threatening injuries. I looked and didn’t see any blood and came back and sat down.”

Railroad workers were with Beller before first responders arrived on the scene, Driver said.

Driver didn’t see the collision or hear it.

“I was watching Donald Trump speak on television on top volume,” Driver said.

Had the car traveled 2 more feet, it would have struck Logan’s outbuilding filled with his collections of old treasures, mostly tools and car parts.

The passenger side of Beller’s car was completely caved in from the impact of the train.

The crossing does not have cross arms but does have flashing lights and warning signs on the crossing approach. The lights were functioning at the time of the collision, Eaton said.

Warren County Sheriff’s Office has been called to one other collision with a train at that location since 2013, Warren County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Harmon said.
