WKU to host 2017 C-USA volleyball tourney
Conference USA officials announced Tuesday that Western Kentucky has been chosen to host the 2017 Conference USA Volleyball Championship inside E.A. Diddle Arena.
The decision for the annual three-day postseason tournament to be held in Bowling Green was made at the Conference USA Board of Directors annual June meeting Monday.
“We are very excited to host the 2017 Conference USA volleyball tournament,” athletic director Todd Stewart said in a WKU release. “As a program that consistently wins conference championships and competes in NCAA Tournaments in addition to finishing the 2015 season ranked No. 22 nationally, our volleyball program’s success on the court and in the classroom truly ranks among the nation’s top programs.
“This will be a great week for everyone in our region to see excellent collegiate volleyball.”
WKU has hosted a total of five league championships dating back to 1983. The 2017 edition will mark the third time in the last 10 years that the Lady Toppers have hosted a postseason league tournament as WKU most recently captured Sun Belt Conference Tournament titles inside Diddle Arena in both 2009 and 2012.
WKU enters 2016 having captured both the 2014 and 2015 C-USA Tournament titles in the program’s first two seasons as a league member. The Lady Toppers captured the program’s first title in 2014 by defeating Rice in a five-set thriller in Hattiesburg, Miss., and claimed the title this past season after downing host UTSA in San Antonio. Rice is set to host this year’s tournament in Houston on Nov. 18-20.
