Lady Tops draw No. 2 seed for C-USA volleyball tournament
Western Kentucky’s volleyball team earned the No. 2 seed for next week’s Conference USA Volleyball Championship at E.A. Diddle Arena.
The Lady Toppers are seeking a fourth-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the second-seeded squad. For the fourth straight season, coach Travis Hudson’s team finished as regular-season champions in the league, sharing this year’s title with No. 1-seeded North Texas. WKU is the first team to four-peat as regular-season champions in conference history.
WKU will open play Friday with a noon contest with No. 7-seeded Charlotte.
With a victory, the Lady Toppers would advance to face the winner of No. 3 Rice and No. 6 Southern Miss. On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded North Texas will take on No. 8 Marshall while No. 4 UTSA draws No. 5 Florida Atlantic.
Four quarterfinal matches will take place on Friday with first serves scheduled for noon, 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
On Saturday, semifinals are slated for 1:30 and 4 p.m. If the Lady Toppers win Friday, they would play in the 1:30 match Saturday. Sunday’s championship contest will begin at noon at Diddle Arena.
Championship matches on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on CUSA.tv, while Sunday’s championship game can be viewed on ESPN3.
The Lady Toppers (27-3 overall, 13-1 C-USA) have not lost a match at home this season (12-0) and have won their last 52 matches at home against conference foes, dating back to the 2011 campaign.
