Centre’s Hayes named to All-Commonwealth Team
Centre junior quarterback Devin Hayes (Bowling Green Class of 2014) has been named to the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Community Trust Bank 2017 Kentucky Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team.
The Kentucky Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team is a pre-season recognition award for football players attending a Kentucky college or university. Players who exhibit leadership skills in the classroom and on the field were nominated by their school to be recognized as a member of the all-commonwealth team.
The awards will be handed out to the players during the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame 2017 Induction Ceremony, which will take place at the Lexington Opera House on June 23.
Hayes, an Honorable Mention All-Southern Athletic Association pick, ranked seventh in the nation in passing yards with a single-season school record of 3,148 passing yards this past season. The junior set single-game school records with 527 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns against Rhodes in Week 9 of the season. For his performance, he garnered SAA Offensive Player of the Week accolades as well as being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Hayes recorded six 300-yard passing performances on the year. The CoSIDA Academic All-District selection had eight games with at least two passing touchdowns.

Kentucky senior Beck Pennington (Greenwood Class of 2012) has earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference men’s tennis accolades.
Pennington, who also garnered All-SEC honors in 2015, tied with fellow senior Nils Ellefsen for most wins for the Wildcats during spring with 16. Playing mostly No. 3 singles, Pennington also played at No. 1 and No. 2 singles during the season for the Wildcats. He scored victories over nationally-ranked No. 119 Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame and No. 83 Kevin Wong of Michigan to reach a ranking as high as No. 113 this season.
The Wildcats are back in action May 12 in the NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup against Georgia State in the Winston-Salem Regional hosted by Wake Forest.

Spalding sophomore Matt Harper (Logan County Class of 2015) has been named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Baseball Team.
Harper is a double majoring in Accounting and Business Administration and maintains a 4.0 grade-point average. The sophomore infielder’s six home runs have helped the Golden Eagles become one of the more dangerous teams in the nation at the plate, ranking fourth in NCAA Division III in team home runs with 44 on the year, while ranking third nationally in home runs per game averaging 1.19 homers per contest. The second baseman has also been solid in the field earning a .962 fielding percentage, while helping the defense turn four double plays.
Spalding (26-14) faces Webster (Mo.) in the Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday.

Midway junior third baseman Barrett Croslin (Russellville Class of 2014) collected a pair of hits in Sunday’s 16-11 win over IU Southeast in the River States Conference Tournament at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Croslin finished his day 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, four runs scored and an RBI.
Midway, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, remains the only unbeaten squad at 2-0 and will face the winner of No. 2 IU Southeast and No. 1 Point Park (Pa.) on Monday night. The championship is scheduled for Tuesday, and the Eagles need just one win to get there.

Brescia sophomore outfielder Colton Hurt (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2015) drove in a run for the Bearcats in Sunday’s 5-4 loss to West Virginia Tech in an elimination game of the River States Conference Tournament in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Brescia, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, finished its season with an overall record of 13-38.

Centre senior pitcher Trevor Brewer (Greenwood Class of 2013) was named to the Southern Athletic Association’s All-SAA Second Team Baseball team.
Brewer finished his season with a 3-5 record, tossing 55 2/3 innings for a 4.53 ERA. He struck out 23 batters.

Campbellsville senior pitcher Dexter Cline (Greenwood Class of 2013) tossed three innings of one-hit relief in the Tigers’ 16-7 loss to Cumberlands on Sunday in the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament championship game at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Cline allowed one unearned run off one hit hit and one walk. He struck out one.
Campbellsville (33-19), the Mid-South regular-season champion and ranked No. 23 nationally, will wait to find out if it has earned an at-large bid for the NAIA Opening Round Championship scheduled for May 15-18 at various sites.

Campbellsville senior infielder Brittany Rippy (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2013) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Softball Team.
Rippy has battled back from an ACL injury her sophomore season and is finally 100 percent healthy. This season, Rippy is hitting .348 and has also started in all 50 games at second base. Defensively, Rippy has a .955 fielding percentage and has turned 10 double plays with shortstop Jacqueline Roof.
Rippy is majoring in communications and carries a 3.66 GPA. She is graduating on Saturday.
Rippy earlier earned second-team honors on the All-Mid-South Conference Softball Team.
The 10th-ranked Lady Tigers (37-13) host an NAIA Opening Round Tournament which CU is hosting in cooperation with the Bowling Green Visitors and Convention Bureau at Michael O. Buchanon Park in Bowling Green. The four-team, double-elimination tournament runs from May 15-17.

Georgetown junior outfielder Katie Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2014) was named to the All-Mid-South Conference Softball First Team.
Young started all 49 games for the Tigers, batting .363 with a home run, 21 RBIs, 38 runs scored and 21 stolen bases.

Lindsey Wilson junior infielder Amy Rogers (Butler County Class of 2014) was named to the All-Mid-South Conference Softball Second Team.
Rogers started all 50 games for the Blue Raiders, batting .324 with a home run, 16 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson (39-11) hosts an NAIA Opening Round tournament May 15-17.
