Master Flutist and Lecturer Galen Abdur-Razzaq – February 18, 2010, at Bowling Green Technical College

There will be two events featuring Master Flutist and Lecturer Galen Abdur-Razzaq on February 18, 2010, at Bowling Green Technical College. Alecture/performance entitled “In the Tradition” will be held at noon in the Building F conference center. This lecture focuses on the “History of Jazz” which chronicles music from the turn of the century to present day. During the performance, students will learn the five pillars of jazz – melody, harmony, rhythm, syncopation, and improvisation- and are provided with a demonstration of how each of these elements influence jazz. They are also invited to ‘sit in’ with Galen.

An evening performance for the community will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Advance Technology Institute (KATI) Round Room. This event is free and open to the public.

Galen Abdur-Razzaq is one of the most popular musicians and lecturers on college and university campuses. He has received rave reviews from many institutions such as California State Polytechnic University, Georgia Southwestern, University of Maryland, University of West Florida, University of Minnesota, Tuskegee University, University of Wisconsin, The Ohio State University, Miami Dade Community College, Hillsborough Community College and Kansas State University. A former student of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and a graduate of Rutgers University, Galen holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts and Education.
