Greenwood starts fast to beat Bowling Green 14-8

Nine runs in the first two innings was enough for Greenwood to hold off Bowling Green 14-8 Tuesday night at Bowling Green High School.

Alex Grubbs hit a two-run home run in the first inning before the Lady Gators (9-14 overall, 4-2 District 14) exploded for seven runs in the second.

Grubbs finished with two hits – a homer and a double – while Kaylie Allen also added a home run in the game in the fifth. Grubbs, Allen and Tabitha Willgruber all gathered two hits each.

Gia Martin and Kendle White had two hits for Bowling Green (3-9, 1-5). Elizabeth Richey hit a three-run double in the top of the sixth to cut Greenwood’s lead to 12-8, but the Lady Purples couldn’t finish the rally as Greenwood snapped a four-game losing streak.

Kayden Murray earned the win from the circle with nine strikeouts while scattering 11 hits.
