Duncan Hines Celebrates It’s Creative Baking Roots In Kentucky!
Do you have a favorite cake, brownie or cupcake recipe that always wows the crowd? Duncan Hines is calling creative bakers of all levels to enter the Adventures in Good Baking Program taking place in Duncan Hines’s hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Duncan Hines brand was started by the actual man named Duncan Hines here in Kentucky. He was a traveling salesman turned food critic whose goal was to provide high quality foods to American households. Sixty years after the introduction of the first Duncan Hines product he created, the Duncan Hines company is still making it possible for people to enjoy great tasting baked goods in their own homes. For instance, Duncan Hines is now launching the new Decadent Cake and Glazes Line. The cakes come in Apple Caramel, Triple Chocolate and Classic Carrot Cake and the Glazes are available in both Chocolate and Vanilla. The products will debut at the Duncan Hines Festival offering consumers samples and coupons.
In honor of the Duncan Hines Festival, Duncan Hines would like to know what YOU bake to celebrate your special occasions. Share your best recipe at the Duncan Hines Festival for the chance to be one of two people crowned the Duncan Hines Grand Champion, win a trophy and $200.
“We are delighted to honor the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky and the Duncan Hines Festival as the hometown of Duncan Hines,” said Lora Van Velsor, Vice President of Marketing for Duncan Hines. “We are very excited to see the baking and creative skills of the residents and eager to see what they create using their favorite Duncan Hines product.”
Here’s how it works. On August 14th, bring your best baked good, using at least one Duncan Hines product to the Kentucky Library and Museum, 1400 Kentucky Street, Bowling Green, to enter the Adventures in Good Baking Program. There will be two categories, Amateur and Professional. The professional bakers (anyone who has had formal training or is in the baking industry) should bring their creation between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. The amateur bakers will bring their finest work between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. You can register that day at the Kentucky Library and Museum or print out the online entry form and bring it with you. Remember to attach your recipe and name along with the entry form.
There is a required registration fee/donation of $1.00, which Duncan Hines will match. This program benefits multiple local charities through Bowling Green Junior Women’s Club. Throughout the year, proceeds raised from the festival will provide for agencies in need.
After all the entries have been submitted, our panel of judges, which will include some of Kentucky’s finest food experts as well as Duncan Hines family members, will taste each entry and judge on site. The judging will be based on taste, appearance and creativity.
All should return at 4 P.M. for the awards ceremony. Two lucky winners (one in each category) will win the coveted grand prize of The Duncan Hines Grand Champion, a trophy, $200 and bragging rights. Another ten finalists (5 from each category) will win honorable mentions and $50.
Also at the Kentucky Library and Museum, attendees will be able to sample new Decadent Cake and Glazes products and receive coupons.
