Head of the Clash – Vette City Roller Derby’s final bout of the season
Time for teachers, time for books, time for rollergirls’ dirty looks! Vette City Roller Derby is ready to ring in the new school year in style with “Head of the Clash,” our final home bout of the 2010 season. This time, the Vette City Vixens are going head-to-head with the Nashville Rollergirls’ Lower Broads on Saturday, August 28, at The Skate Box, 506 Three Springs Road in Bowling Green. The Vixens, fresh off two recent wins versus the Southern Illinois Rollergirls and Paducah’s Radioactive City Rollergirls, are looking to extend the winning streak as we close out our inaugural season.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the bout begins at 7 p.m., with announcer Latenight Lyle calling all the action and our zombie cheerleaders, the Little Dead Gore-vettes, providing halftime entertainment. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Barren River Area Safe Space (BRASS), a local non-profit organization offering shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Fans who bring an item to donate to BRASS will receive VCRD swag! Needed items include: used cell phones, personal care items, household items, non-perishable food, monetary donations, laundry detergent, paper products, and diapers or Pull-Ups.
Tickets are available at the following Bowling Green businesses: Spencer’s Coffeehouse, Bowling Green Pipe and Cigar, Tidball’s, Great Escape Records and Comics, Greener Groundz, the Skate Box, and Shenanigans.
Established in 2009, VCRD boasts a roster of approximately 50 skaters. At the heart of our mission is the betterment of our community through the support of non-profit organizations like Hope Harbor, sexual assault recovery center, and the Capitol Arts Theatre. We are always recruiting skaters, referees, volunteers, statisticians, and cheerleaders, so visit www.vettecityrollerderby.com for more information.
