Black Oak Arkansas at Shelley’s Place November 5
From the rural town of Black Oak, Arkansas came one of the true pioneers of the Southern Rock movement…Jim “Dandy” Mangrum and the band which drew their name from that town Black Oak Arkansas.
Black Oak Arkansas’ “true grit” style of music has generated 7 Gold and 3 Platinum albums. With hits such as “Hot & Nasty”, “Lord Have Mercy On My Soul”, and the trademark song that sent them on their way to success, “Jim Dandy To The Rescue”, Black Oak Arkansas has become a mainstay throughout the years.
When one looks back to Black Oak’s past (an original headliner in The California Jam, twice named hardest working band in music) you can’t help but notice how their music of the seventies can be seen as an influence in bands like the Kentucky Headhunters and Jackyl, just good ol’ rock with a country kick!
After a near-fatal accident forced Jim Dandy to take some time off, he decided to reunite with original guitar player and co-founding member, Rickie Lee Reynolds, to form an all new and ever- improved Black Oak Arkansas which is as Mangrum states, “Ready to Roll and Loaded for Bear!”
The band now calls Memphis TN home and has completed work on a new CD. ‘Memphis Mean Tymes’ will be coming your way shortly as the band secures a label deal.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Black Oak Arkansas live, you’re in for one heck of a show! JIM DANDY, America’s original lion-mane strutter who’s been often imitated but never duplicated fronts this little ol’ Band that will knock your socks off!
The country’s premier boogie band, Black Oak Arkansas, hits Bowling Green Saturday, November 5th at Shelley’s Place on Louisville Road. Tickets on sale now. $18.00 in advance – $22.00 day of show.
