Cage The Elephant: Thank You Happy Birthday (2011)
Cage The Elephant‘s second studio release, Thank You, Happy Birthday is the result of a 2 year touring and writing stint which reportedly produced material for 80 songs. The 13 tracks on their sophmore album were recorded in Tragedy/Tragedy Studios in Nashville and produced by Jay Joyce. Their first, self-titled album sold nearly 400,000 copies. The debut album also garnered three Top 5 singles at Alternative Radio. Between the three, the group managed to chart on Billboard’s Top 200 for 73 consecutive weeks.
MusicRemedy.com reports that in order to gain a fresh approach for Thank You Happy Birthday, “The band locked themselves away in a remote Kentucky cabin, listened to and discovered old albums from The Pixies Mudhoney and Butthole Surfers, and studied interviews with songwriting greats like Bob Dylan and John Lennon. Cage the Elephant were re-energized, and ready to lay it all down on the line-inhibition free. After just two weeks, Cage The Elephant emerged with a set of songs that blast through your speakers with ferocity, while at the same time reflect their clever lyrical and melodic gifts.”
