Harper strokes game-winning hit for Spalding
Spalding University freshman third baseman Matt Harper (Logan County Class of 2015) provided the game-winning hit in Saturday’s 1-0 baseball win over Iowa Wesleyan at Derby Field in Louisville.
Harper’s single to left field with a runner on second was bobbled in the outfield, allowing the game-winning run to score.
Spalding also took the nightcap of a the doubleheader, 10-0, and Harper chipped in with two runs scored.
Spalding (22-11 overall, 12-6 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is back in action Sunday with a home doubleheader against SLIAC rival Washington (Mo.).

Shawnee State redshirt sophomore right fielder Andrew Vanthournout (South Warren Class of 2013) had a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the Bears in Saturday’s 4-0 baseball win over Georgetown.
Vanthournout stroked a double in the win.
Georgetown won the second game of the doubleheader, 2-1 in 10 innings. Vanthournout scored the lone run for the Bears. That game closed out the regular season for Shawnee State (19-30 overall, 6-14 in Mid-South Conference).

Longwood University junior outfielder Janos Briscoe (Warren East Class of 2012) was 1 for 2 with a walk and scored a run in the Lancers’ 8-4 home baseball win over Campbell on Saturday.
Longwood (23-16 overall, 8-5 in Big South Conference) is back in action Sunday with a home doubleheader against Campbell in Farmville, Va.

Brescia junior Morgan Manning (Butler County Class of 2013) and a strong finish in the Lady Bearcats’ softball regular-season finale at Point Park (Pa.) on Saturday.
Manning, the team’s second baseman, went 1 for 4 and scored a run in Brescia’s 7-6 loss in the opener.
Manning was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the nightcap, a 6-5 loss to Point Park.
Brescia finished the regular season 9-21 overall and 4-12 in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
