Cultural Festivals: Bowling Green & Glasgow celebrate local heritage
In September, both Bowling Green and Glasgow celebrate their international makeup with the Global Fest in the Barrens on September 4 and the Bowling Green International Festival on September 25.
Global Fest, in its 10th year, is according to festival organizers “A day of reaching out to one another, discovering the similaritie sand differences among peple in our community.” From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m on the Downtown Public Square you will find a variety of displays, activities and entertainment. A few of the performers include: Over The Limit, Mariachi Band, a Teen Idol contest, John Edmonds, Arthur Hatfield & Buck Creek, Black Widow and Ernie Small Blues Band. The Bowling Green International Festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. September 25 in Circus Square Park and has been a local tradition since 1989. It features three stages and a variety of food, merchandise and edu-tainment booths and displays. A few of the performers include: Rachana Pasupuleti, Watersprite, the Filipino-American Association, Armin Hasanagic, ACHE (salsa), Zingara, HuDost, Johnny Thompson and Def Leprechaun.
New this year to the festival is a Flamenco troupe from Lexington, a middle eastern band from Seattle and two new traditional Latin dance groups from Bowling Green. According to festival organizers, “The majority of traditional foreign culture music and dance on stage is performed by local residents from the extremely diverse Bowling Green area community.”
